Good bladder health begins at home. Home remedies for urinary pet problems are gentle, yet effective for treatment and daily prevention. Since bladder problems are common and can turn into recurring issues that are painful and dangerous to your cat, it makes sense to learn what you can do at home.

Before we talk about home remedies for urinary pet problems, let's cover the basics of good nutrition. First, make sure your pet gets lots of clean, fresh water. Since tap water contains chemicals that can taste unappealing to a pet, get your pet to drink more water by serving filtered water. Tap filters are not expensive, nor are the pitcher filters made by Brita. Getting into the habit of providing chemical-free water will go a long way in prevent bladder problems and flushing those toxins out.

Second, do not feed your pet dry food. Dry cat food sets the stage for urinary problems because its low moisture content can dehydrate your pet. Dehydration sets the stage for bladder problems. Instead of dry food, purchase quality canned food. It may be more expensive, but your cat's health and longevity are worth the price.

Home Remedies for Urinary Pet Problems

If you're hesitant to use natural remedies, understand that they have been used for thousands of years to treat maladies in animals and humans. Drug companies have sold us a bill of good and made us believe that natural substances are not effective. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Before I tell you about the three best home remedies for urinary pet problems, let me tell you a bit about antibiotics and why natural remedies are safer and more effective. Antibiotics are typically prescribed for pet bladder problems, but what most pet owners do not realize is that while antibiotics do suppress the symptoms, they do not heal the cause. This is why cats who are given antibiotics often develop recurring problems because antibiotics do not heal the conditions that gave rise to them. To complicate things further, antibiotics can have side effects that make the condition worse.

Home remedies for urinary pet problems actually heal the conditions that caused the problem in the first place. Since they have no side effects and do not interact negatively with any other medications your pet might be taking, they are actually much more effective than drugs. They are strong enough to heal the condition, yet gentle enough to use daily for preventative care.

The 3 Best Home Remedies for Urinary Pet Problems

Uva ursi - eliminates bacteria in the bladder and urinary tract which is the cause of disease. Builds up immunity in the bladder and is an effective diuretic.

Berberis - relieves inflammation. Kills bacteria and strep.

Staphysagria - heals inflamed and infected bladder tissues. Relieves pain.

Canthasis - soothes the bladder tissues and relieves pain. Resets the sensation of bladder fullness to normal. When a pet has had a urinary problem, the pet may strain to urinate, not realizing that the bladder is empty. Canthasis alleviates this issue.

Home Remedies for Urinary Pet Problems - Picking the Right Supplement

The ingredients above must be combined in the right amounts to maximize effectiveness. Don't go out and pick any supplement because all natural remedies are not created equal. Look for a supplement that contains the ingredients listed above, that is formulated under the supervision of a pharmacist and according to the guidelines of the Homeopathic Pharmacoepia.

Also look for home remedies for urinary pet problems that have a money-back guarantee. A manufacturer who stands behind their product has done their due diligence to makes sure their product is effective, yet gentle enough for daily use.

Look for home remedies for urinary pet problems that are easy to administer. The supplement I recommend comes in granular form, so you just sprinkle it on your pet's food or put a few granules in your pet's mouth. They dissolve instantly upon contact with the saliva, so your pet won't be able to spit them out.

Remember that preventative care for urinary issues is essential to your pet's quality of life and longevity. In fact, home remedies for urinary pet problems are as important to your beloved pet, as brushing your teeth is to preventing cavities.
